The P40, in its various incarnations, served in the United States Army Air Force throughout the Second World War, fighting in Europe, across Asia and in the deserts of North Africa.  The first model to see active service, the P40B proved to be an effective and tough low-level fighter, able to withstand heavy enemy fire and bring its pilot home safely.

Red Nose

Please note that this aircraft and this squadron had RED spinners during the war. Apparently because this is a "Starter Kit" the scheme shown uses a black nose as the colour red is not included by Airfix with their mini pots of acrylic paint. It sounds silly but it is true. The several colour photographs of the Tomahawk with 112 squadron in North Africa show RED spinners. This squadron kept the colour red when later they had the Mustang IV in Italy. That kit is a "Starter Kit" too (A55107) so is also limited by the available mini-pots glued to the box - Airfix have also given that a black spinner.
