Pretty Mediocre Modeller
Hi All, A couple of posts recently have mentioned their modelling stashes. This has got me to wondering how big is your modelling stash? I started keeping a record of the size of my collection of unbuilt models nearly 30 years ago, when I was worried that it was getting up to nearly 20 kits! Now my stash is around 50 strong! Some of the kits in my loft have been up there since the 80's (see my build of the VC10 which was started in about 1985).So, I'm thinking my stash may be quite small compared to some others, so just how big is your stash? Cheersjason
Ratch
My stash is currently 387 kits, 204 of them are Airfix.
graham martin
Blimey, makes my 118 look quite restrained... storage space is my main consideration. I like to be able to see all of my stash, as i find it motivational !

John Symmons
Hi P.M.M.Interesting question about stashes. Biggyinn mentioned the same thing about week plus ago saying his stash was a moderate 270 and it got me thinking about mine. Mine started in the mid 60's when slot cars were the modelling hobby of choice, and I still had a few models unbuilt ( including the 4 Revell Me 109Es still to be posted) and as new models began to appear I started to by them for a "later date". That turned into getting everything I could find in my sphere of interest. Then 25 years ago I saw the new super models in my sphere of interest coming onto the market, like Dragon etc. So the for-later changed to for-when-I-retire. That was when I became interested in the new 350 scale ships, and the new 1/72 armour kits. I stayed clear of Airfix as my memouries of Airfix was still of the 60's, and I rhought they could never compete with this new stuff. How wrong I was proved.Shortly after retirement I made a list of my kits to be built and it stood at 220 kits, 22 ships (72nd, 350th & 600th, 4 completed.) 36 72nd armour all types, ( 2 completed.) and 162 72nd aircraft, (11 completed.). Since then I've added 24 new kits 20 aircraft mainly Airfix (1 being built.) and Roden and 4 armour (1 Airfix & 3 Roden). So my stash that should be getting smaller is increasing. Some will never be built tike the Airfix Warspte with those horrid flaired guns and maybe a few other of the very old Lindberg models. Oh dear! So many models and so little time. And I'm still wanting some of the new Airfix 1/72 releases when they finally arrive in Cape Town.Remember we do this for fun. John the Pom

John Bollig
Well, guys I have somewhere up to 1000 kits to be honest. The vast majority are airfix, frog or matchbox kits. This stash is the result of buyng over the past 44 years of modeling. It is really cool to be able to say that I have a model of the first kit I built and the last kit I plan on building. BTW, they are Airfix kits. I got my first kit at Alco/Duckwall in the early 1970's. I hope to enjoy the hobby as I age and hopefully contribute to the hobby. RR
I'm not sure how many, a couple of hundred, I think, going back to the seventies. I would be interested in how much money everyone has invested in their stashes, if it's not too indelicate a question. I paid an average of about £20 for the older kits but for the more recent ones, an average of about £80. I don't regret a penny of it because modelling is a great hobby and better than the pub every night. Including paint, tools and accessories, I think I must have spent at least three or four grand on modelling over the years, which I don't consider too bad. Ratch
I'm not sure about what my kits are worth, but I paid (or their value at RRP for those I acquired through Flying Hours for example) is just over £3,000, or just over £8 per kit.
Comet4
Currently well over 2,000! I started in 1967 and somehow forgot to stop! I still have my very first kit, an Airfix Mig 15 that underwent a stripdown and rebuild a few years ago after getting a bit knocked about. Also have a Jet Provost from the same era and a Boeing 747 from around 1970./media/tinymce_upload/264f975dd6181a0ceab05fbca2a89165.jpg/media/tinymce_upload/a190e8adbe52461fe1d3a46b35cb3961.JPG/media/tinymce_upload/31bb8d48b3af5d0f1c25a0c82bccf620.jpg

Steve Komor
I recently began updating my database, and I'm up to 807 kits with a few more left to add! ntrocket88
Ah, so I seem to have around 275 1/76 scale kits, mostly armor and softskins but also some ruined houses and specialty infantry weapons (mortar, HMG etc.). At my current rate of build, I should be through them in only 27 years. Mind you, by then I am unlikely to be able to see well enough to make them...The list includes:85 Milicast resin kits53 Airfix kits44 Matchbox (now Revell) kits43 Fujimi (and Nitto) kits28 SHQ white-metal kits and infantry weapons18 MMS white-metal kits1 Cromwell resin kit
vimal_indrasoma
465 here according to the count at Scalemates - but that might include books as well.Unfortunately, all my built kits from the '60s onwards have fallen foul of many moves and over-enthusiastic 'cleaning'. I don't think I have more than around 30 in displayable condition, and my output has fallen drastically, what with age and other issues (include laziness).I do have a few 'super' kits that I want to complete no matter what, like some 1:72 'big' planes (Fw200, AC130, Tu-142), a 1:24 typhoon and a Wingnuts RE8 to match the little Airfix one. Currently saving up for a big display cabinet ...
Sailorman
I have 184 built kits and 279 unbuilt. Virtually all Airfix. A few of them were built way back in the mid 1960's when I was around 12 years old ...... I seem to buy them rather faster than I build them ..... T2B
Hi, fairly new to this forum stuff but I catologued my loft stash a few years ago when I moved, and has since continued to grow. I have about 400+ waiting to be made, mainly Airfix but approx 100 Esci/Hasegawa/Revell AFVs. I concentrate mainly on 1:72nd stuff. I also have over a hundred made models in my collection and like most modellers, as fast I can make them I still seem to buy more lol. Dave Leeman
Since last time I counted where I promised myself not to go over 50, I'm probably near a hundred, another limit I've promised myself not to exceed!!A few years back I had a clear out through a secondhand kit dealer when my stash stood at around 250? after the initial shock it's a good feeling knowing my corner of the universe is in balance between stash size, build rate and life expectancy!
