Discostu
Hi all, I have tried to apply some basic weathering to my 1/48 MK 1 Spitfire. Some Humbrol black weathering/media/tinymce_upload/ac2a1f03ac48da7e5f93a10f6974b4c4.jpg powder for exhaust staining and black panel wash for under carriage legs and around air intake. Discostu
Hi all, I have tried to replicate the dirty appearance of the underneath of BoB Spitfires, tried preshading and Humbrol weathering powder for machine gun staining./media/tinymce_upload/5e0062cede7d8c97d505fcea1075f002.jpg
Rael
It looks pretty good, the exhausts themselves especially.

E McCann
Nicely done. Weathering can be easy to overdo - though in some circles it seems the fashion to have an aircraft severely "ratted out." (While accurate for some aircraft, you have to wonder how some of these stay in the air!)Useful for little spots of chipped paint - Silver pencil. Simon g
Great first effort. Don't be frightened to experiment, there are different ways to get similar effects and it's all down to style and what works for you. You won't always get it right and there will be some models you turn out that you are less happy with but don't let that put you off.
Kenneth ONeill
These aircraft were always "new originally" even if most of them never made their "first major", so it is actually easy to over-do cordite and exhaust staining. You've actually got it about right IMVHO.
Discostu
Thanks for your comments guys, it was a bit of a leap of faith, as when I had painted and decaled my Spit, I was really happy with it, and didn't want to "stuff it up" but I'm glad I took the risk. I've done two Airfix Spitfires, time for a change, so I'm about to start the Airfix BF109E in 1/48. Using the airbrush for mottled camo, hmm, another first. Cheers, Stuart. Howard Wright1707820367
Looks great. It's very easy to overdo it to the point where it does ruin the model. You have got it looking as though it has flown and fought, but not flown through a cloud of oil! Well done.
