| Description

The Gloster Javelin was developed in the 1950s as a two-seat, all weather interceptor. Serving with the RAF during the late 1950s and much of the 1960s, the Javelin was the last aircraft to bear the Gloster name.

A distinctive fighter, the Javelin was equipped with a broad delta wing and a large finned T-Tail. Its cannons were placed in the wing, harking back to an earlier era of fighter development, but its missile armament was cutting edge. Progressing through nine marks in a short career, the Javelin had a troubled development, with its only action coming during the Malayan campaign from 1963-1966.

This is the first injection moulded 1:48 Gloster Javelin to be produced and features include: detailed access ladder, optional open or closed canopy,  removable intake and jet pipe covers, along with optional detailed armament and fuel tanks.  The model also has poseable elevators, ailerons, rudder, flaps and airbrakes.

Great kit, needs better decals

This is a wonderfully accurate and well-fitting model, practically no filler needed anywhere - except where I made mistakes ! An unusual subject and a spectacular model when completed, another superbly engineered new-tool from Airfix which carries on the good work already done with the likes of the 1-24 Typhoon and Mosquito and the various 1-72 WW2 warplanes as well, all of which fit beautifully. As with the previous reviewer, I had problems with the decals, especially on the very detailed wings even with liberal application of Decalfix, otherwise would have been five stars

1/48 Javelin!!!

1/48 Javelin!!! whoever would have thought it, well Airfix did and thanks to them we have a very nice kit. I have built this kit and the general fit of parts was great, the only thing I would recommend is to join the individual wing sections to the fuselage sections before joining the fuselage together, otherwise it is great. The only reason I have marked it down is that the plastic is a little rough and the decals while looking good were not good to use. They were hard and brittle and would not conform to the surface of the model. I ended up making masks for some of them and painting them on, and using aftermarket decals for others.

Humbrol Enamel paints for the kit's primary decal scheme.
