| Description

The Harrier had been designed from the beginning to attract export sales. The first of these was the US Marine Corps who began to take an interest around 1969 when the jet was first introduced into the RAF service. Hawker Siddeley made some modifications to the aircraft and in 1971 the AV-8A Harrier entered service with the USMC as a close support aircraft.

Operating from amphibious assault ships the Harrier's role was to augment that of the larger US Navy warplanes by providing troops on the battle field with close air support at a moments notice in a similar way to that provided by helicopters but with heavier weapons.

Later, starting in 1979, the AV-8As were upgraded to AV-8C specification. by this time their effectiveness had been proven in many practice exercises and their superb maneuverability demonstrated in mock dog-fights with F4 Phantom fighters. Today the Marine Corps continues to operate the AV-8B Harrier II.

Please Note: Paints for the Pilot are 61, 63 & 150 - these are shown in the paint lists for both decal schemes.

Best little Harrier by far

This is far ahead of the competition. The detail is great, it even has the little wind-vane, It is nice to have the wheel bays. The best bit is the outrigger wheels fit. Often the worry with a one-piece wing is whether all the wheels will touch the ground - they do! Just be careful with the pitot tube on the nose, once attached it is easy to knock it off.

Easy but simplified model.

It's quite a nice kit. It's easy to build and it have two nice painting patterns. One flaw is the cockpit - it's not well detailed. Especially the dashboard makes a bad impression. I recommend it to beginners.

Harrier with a twist!

A nice little kit that goes together well, apart from the air intake lips which seem to be way too thick and needed a lot of sanding to make them fit correctly. I built mine as a West German aircraft, Germany in fact never operated the aircraft having cancelled their option to buy after the H S Kestrel trials at West Rainham. Along with the RAF and USMC they were one of the prime customers. My model shows what a German aircraft may have looked like in the late 60s. I based the markings on those that eventually adorned the F104 Starfighter that was chosen over the Harrier.
