Toboldlygo
I acquired this kit a few weeks ago (after it was released) - I can remember building the previous tooling many years ago. This one is absolutely bonkers in the level of detail for a 1:72 kit, I'm currently on page 4 & 5 of the instructions (though I'm not completely following them for ease of painting)/media/tinymce_upload/1deec3ce7d81b94b61c61712846ba3d3.jpgThe main cockpit isn't glued to the main bomb bat assembly yet
Kenneth ONeill
From recent experience I'd build sub-assemblies as far as I'd dare before painting. Also, if I may suggest, it might look good to just paint the window and fuselage frames on the starboard nose insert so you can see the interior a bit better. I’ve now painted the insides of the fuselage and added some of the glazing. Picture shows the fuselage taped together to allow the hole to be drilled for the boomerang shaped antenna – that sits atop of the fuselage above the bomb-aimer/ forward gunning positions. /media/tinymce_upload/9bc143d8c9280c9946f4e2bb253a9d6c.jpgThere are also a number of parts in paint (and currently drying), hopefully tomorrow I should be able to show some real progress. Jonathan Mock
Dry fit, dry fit and then do more dry fitting! I'm making the (shhhhhh) Tamiya 1/48 Tomcat, but despite the precision of the fit, I'm still sry fitting everything.

Toboldlygo
First update for quite a while, it's beginning to look like a B-17.../media/tinymce_upload/f24d4f78d1dd969959b3d68f54b1a43e.jpgI've neatly finished the engines and there are a number of parts in paint..I treated myself to the 1:24th scale Hawker Typhoon for Christmas - my brain melted when I read the instructons!! Incidently the exhaust maifolds needed some trimming to get them to fit properly. I'm having a break from it atm the moment as it's been very ttime consuming build and I have steam locos that don't renumber and weather themselves... The Typhoon is one of my favourite WW2 aircraft (along with the Hurricane, Beaufighter, Mosquito and Hudson*) and was built not to far from where I live. I've just recommenced work on the B 17G today (I've been busy with model train commissions). I've been doing some light filling and I am currently masking up all the glazing. Hopefully in the not to distant future, I'll post some more photo's. * My Grandfather flew Hudson's during the war (including a bombing raid on the Scharnhorst) - please Airfix can you produce a decent version of them!! Toboldlygo
After a brief sabbaticle from the B17 (trains have been occupying my time), it was back with to it with a vengence. After several hours of masking up I'm to this stage!! /media/tinymce_upload/92e38623778d1351ed82b854e67b65cb.jpg

barry_vitou
Hey, I recently acquired this kit and I was wondering what type of gloss/primer to use on it before I actually paint the exterior, also what exactly is 'dry fitting'? I've always been a bit confused by this - but it does look like an amazing build.
Heather Kavanagh
also what exactly is 'dry fitting'? I've always been a bit confused by thisDry fitting just means testing parts and assemblies in their locations before you cement them in place. It allows you to adjust by filing or sanding if things are a little tight, for example.
