I'm trying to paint a 1:35 Centurion in desert camo with Humbrol desert tan spray paint, but there are two possible probems;

The origional pieces from the sprue are all a very, very, dark green, but me grandad's tank was desert coloured. Also, I have already painted one thin layer of paint over one side before realising that painting bright yellow mixed with buff over dark green looks bad.

Given that all paints involced are acrylic, can I still spray over the model to get a desert base coat?
