| Description

By 1943 the RAF needed a dedicated ground attack fighter, and the Typhoon was suited to the role. The powerful engine allowed the aircraft to carry a load of up to two 1,000lb (454kg) bombs. From September 1943, Typhoons could also be armed with four, eight or in some cases even 12 "60lb" RP-3 rockets.

Despite its fearsome reputation as something of an airborne battering ram, you might think that pilots flying the mighty Hawker Typhoon might have chosen to embellish their aircraft with aggressive looking artwork, to further enhance its notoriety. In actual fact, it is thought that just one aircraft benefited from the addition of shark mouth nose artwork, even though it proved particularly effective on the front profile of the Typhoon.

1/48 detail in 1/72... Watch the decals though!

This is a lovely little kit... and not that little either given that the real typhoon cockpit was 9 foot off the ground. no filler needed, sharp parts and clear instructions. The kit allows you to cut open the gun bays to show off the cannon breaches and shells. Hinged gun bay doors included. you do need a bit of skill and a sharp razor saw for this. The hood can be fixed open too so good diorama potential.

I suspect few will choose the 2x 1000lb bombs but they're a nice one for the spares box. Mounted they look seriously impressive. These are big bombs.

The d day stripe decals look an easy option - they're not. Too big and too easy to rip/wrinkle. If you fancy a summer 44 kit just paint them. It'll give a better result.

A 3 blade prop option would give a little more options but that's a minor niggle and something for the next release. I think the kit lacks wing landing lights (like a hurricane) but I may be wrong here. Maybe not all had them.

Overall a great build.
