| Description

Without doubt, the Supermarine Spitfire was one of the most important aircraft of WWII, with more being produced that any other British aircraft type – it was also in production throughout the war.  The Mk.V version of the Spitfire was produced in greater numbers than any other mark and gave the RAF a combat advantage throughout most of 1941.

Entering service with No.92 Squadron at Biggin Hill, the Spitfire Va was powered by the new Merlin 45 engine and incorporated the ‘a’ wing, which retained the eight machine gun armament of earlier machines.  Pitted against the Messerschmitt Bf 109F, the Spitfire Va proved to be superior at higher altitudes and was generally more heavily armed.  As the most produced version, the Spitfire mark V saw significant development during its service career.

Other than the decal schemes, what is the difference between this kit and the Mk.1a Kit? Externally they seem to be the exact same.

As this kit is a reissue of the Mark 1/2a kit, does the kit still come with the early Mark 1 "early canopy"?

What is the wingspan and length of this model?

?

Does the kit feature the circular oil cooler fairing under the port wing, a key difference with the ealier Mk1 and Mk11 variants where the profile was semi/half circular? The reason for asking is that EB-Z was a Mk11a and not a Va.

If the kit is a re-issue, what is it a re-issue of? The CAD drawing shows recessed panel lines, and I am not aware of any such Spitfire V series kit having previously been issued. Is it a mix of parts from 2 different kits? If so, which kits? Thanks

Money for old rope

The kit is a rework of the Spitfire mk2/1 and it gives decal options for one mkVa and one mklla kit. I bought two kits which was just as well as one kit had the transparent parts missing so I substituted from the kit I was making as a mkVa plane. I am now left with trying to work out what to do with the other kit as the company has declined to supply the missing parts as they claim to have no spares. If you get a complete kit then it goes together well as you would expect if you have made any of the new spitfire kits Airfix have made recently. No problems there.

I am very sorry to hear you've had a problem with missing parts on one of your kits. If our Spares team aren't able to help with sending replacement pieces, I'd recommend getting in touch with our Customer Care team to see if they can offer a replacement kit.

Humbrol Enamel paints for the kit's primary decal scheme. Please note - Humbrol products can only be shipped to UK
