| Description

  • Scheme 1: De Havilland DH.82a Tiger Moth Royal Naval Air Station Abbotsinch, Paisley, Scotland, 1962
  • Scheme 2: De Havilland DH.82a Tiger Moth No,12 Local Air Supply Unit (LASU), Kiarivu Airfield, Papua New Guinea, August 1945

Still a familiar sight at airfields all over the world, the de Havilland Tiger Moth primary trainer made its first flight back in 1931 and went on to provide British and Commonwealth air forces with thousands of trained pilots for their operational squadrons. Performing a similar role to this day, the Tiger Moth allows prospective Warbird pilots to gain valuable experience in flying a tail-dragger aircraft.

It is interesting to note that this famous basic training aircraft is still doing the same job today as it did during its service introduction in the 1930s. The magnificent Tiger Moth allows potential Warbird pilots the opportunity to gain valuable experience flying a ‘taildragger’ aircraft, before eventually moving on to display the Spitfires and Mustangs which thrill the crowds at Airshows all over the world.

Terrific Tiger Moth

My sixth Airfix set. This set was a brilliant start to aircraft modelling. All the pieces stuck together well and there was no sanding required. Some pieces were easy to snap but that was my fault. I strongly recommend this kit to anybody into biplanes. Congratulations to Airfix.
