Toboldlygo
Something slightly easier than the mighty B-17G for my next kit, the new Curtiss P-40B Warhawk. Assembly is very straight forward.1. Paint and part assembly of cockpit (I had dry assembled prior to painting)/media/tinymce_upload/54fb4c4dcc50ea420f6b8fc2fcae83df.JPG2. Assembled cockpit and insides of the fuselage painted/media/tinymce_upload/f9700fef60972276a039fedb9477e78e.jpg3. Cockpit glued into one side of the fuselage/media/tinymce_upload/f219e4a7ccb2cf0db8c84d4a2b45e1d2.jpg4. Fuselage assembled, needed the wing underside to ensure correct alignment of the body to wing fillets (so no filling is needed)/media/tinymce_upload/1ec021d7b6bbd63643ca043f1b6edf03.jpg5. Wings fitted, there's going to be some filling - especially around the leading edge undercarriage blisters/media/tinymce_upload/cc96062f9404623e9efe7e3e8f781604.jpg6. Tail plane and rudder fitted - no issues with fit there fortunately/media/tinymce_upload/b7665dbba305c1e5b9a87fe4c863c7d2.jpg7. A few parts added underneath, now the whole will be allowed to dry and then any filling will be carried out before painting can commence./media/tinymce_upload/a95126d4e6c488a1011820c4c2037a9a.jpg
Toboldlygo
More progress today, all the filling and rubbing down was done. Then I gave the Warhawk a wash in warm soapy water, to remove any grease and dust left over from the rubbing down./media/tinymce_upload/873f516d0e9f674402e4385a0a817800.jpgAfter masking up the cockpit, I then her a coat of primer and airbrushed the underside colour./media/tinymce_upload/818f20b56f5e68ec7cf944a1ae8780b4.jpg

Toboldlygo
Today's update...After nearly a hour and a half of masking I was ready to airbrush the topside of the P-40B/media/tinymce_upload/1204a81f3a1b06babaf295d74c965e4c.jpgI must be getting good at masking as only a couple of minor touch-ups where needed after all the masking was removed../media/tinymce_upload/7035e78af1dcf285b278eedc1853ca2e.jpgThe devil is in the details now, once I've painted, assembled and installed the undercarriage, guns, prop etc it will be time to add the decals. Discostu
Hi James. As I said in a previous post, I've got this kit in my stash, mate, are there any nasty surprises in the build, or is it just minor fettling and filling and all pretty straight forward? Cheers, Stuart.

Cheers, Stuart. No Stuart, this kit has been an absolute joy to build (so far), the fit of the parts is spot on, just minor fettling on the occasional part - even the undercarraige has gone together beautifully. It's worth test fitting every part (or as I call it dry fitting), it cuts out any surprises with glue involved 😉
Toboldlygo
More progress, under-carriage and exhausts installed./media/tinymce_upload/6c391d764145d53b3c1b80db8d40aeeb.jpgMachine guns and prop installed - first time I've done a duel colour prop (all hand painted)/media/tinymce_upload/e4261a9fa3b5f7ffdb3265c8d8f14c57.jpgI will give the whole plane a couple of coats of gloss varnish before applying the transfers - while that's drying I'll get on with painting the canopy and glazing. Toboldlygo
Almost ready for decals. The canopy and glazing is all painted - all hand painted, tidied up using the tried and tested cocktail stick method. The Warhawk herself has been given a couple of coats of gloss varnish, tomorrow I'll (hopefully) apply the decals./media/tinymce_upload/4a13c368682aa2a19d7b26f22032302e.jpg
Toboldlygo
Decals now, need to wait at least 24 hours before the final top coat of satin varish can be applied to allow the decals to dry properly. Then I can fit the canopy and the Warhawk will be done./media/tinymce_upload/835c94661023d831a146eea8c49d1548.jpg/media/tinymce_upload/9cf4f3812df6260ca65951ec0fb583d6.jpg

Thanks, the transfers for either go on very I think. I did have a few issues with the varnish (needed thinning), but the plane is finally done./media/tinymce_upload/7966dae47fa5fee39b7aced9cbf3fcb2.jpg/media/tinymce_upload/cc2b7fdc02b94e8a038f3cc99eec729a.jpgLooks a tad to green under artificle light, but I'm really happy with it. Discostu
That's turned out very nicely. Was going to do one of my Airfix Hurricanes next, ( doing the 1/48 BF 109e at the moment ) but I reckon the P40 might have to get bumped up in the order as this build has inspired me to get into it. Cheers, Stuart.
kenny g
I really liked the kit it went together really well with no issues. I finished mine up rather quickly and will most likely build 2 more. George Welsh's P-40 and a flying tigers version. I did replace the exhaust stubs and the spinner and prop with a Ultracast resin parts. /media/tinymce_upload/375d6d32b8856bd22e3e17b2592ee5ad.jpg

Heather Kavanagh
Though this aircraft isn't in my interest bubble, it is a handsome looking machine. Lovely builds, too.
