Thanks, it's a lot clearer now. I have discovered that when I insert the spoiler into the bottom wing and attempt to put the top wing over it, the spoiler doesn't align with the slit in the top wing and if I get it through the slot, it shifts the top half of the wing backwards. Do I just have to keep trying untill I get it in the correct way, or am I still doing something wrong?

The older Airfix molds have often not aged all that well. Make sure any excess plastic is removed from the parts. You may have to open up the slits a bit more. They are a bit of a nuisance aren't they, perhaps that's why they call them spoilersSmile. A last resort would be to cut off the vertical bit completely and fill in the slits on the top wings.

Have you tried swapping the parts over, some kits have 'handed' parts, where they look identical but the port part will only fit the port wing and not the starboard.

They might have inadvertently got mixed up or on rare occasions are numbered incorrectly?

I'm thankful to the contributers to this thread, because I was consider purchasing it.

Annoyingly Airfix have not reprinted original instructions.  On one of their tanks, I've had to get the original instructions to clarify the drawings  And the modern sheet has a whole blank page!

Anything about this that makes it a 'must build' kit?  Other than D-Day stripes!

I think the original Airfix instructions did make things a bit easier sometimes. Any attempt at issuing instructions with kits now that have English only explanations  would probably generate negative publicity so is likely to be a non starter. An option may be to have detailed instructions in several laguages available for download as well as the schematic multi-lingual ones in the box.

Back to the P61 though, I've always been a fan of all black colour schemes and nose art. The fact that it's such a good looking aircraft as well makes it a 'must build' kit for me.

Not accepting that full reproduced English instructions  will generate negative publicity.  English language has been absorbed into many languages.  For example I saw a documentary about the French fire brigade tackling the catherdral notre dame.  I was surprised at just how much English was used.  Same with the Swedish crime drama The Bridge.  Also it's educational and no one can argue against that.  Especially if young people have the aviation industry or vehicle manufacturer as future goals.

Please if anyone has the original instruction leaflet and are contemplating putting it in the wast basket, I'd be very grateful for the additional explanations.   Contact via e-mail to the govenor here!

I can't disagree with Tweezers' argument about the English language but I still think it's unlikely that English only instructions with kits will ever return with Airfix. These old ones may be of use to somebody.

Some of the modern instructions do have a blank sheet for the modeller to make 'modelling notes' if they so wish!

Thank you jopres57 for instructions

T2B  I take it your explnation for a blanc sheet is tongue in cheek?  The instructions were skilfully written and set Airfix superior to competing kit manufacturerers at the time.

It's not. I have several sets of Airfix instructions with a blank sheet that you're invited to make notes on.
