@John Symmons

Hi James.

Great to see the Hornet poosibly my all time favourite aircraft. Alway wished Airfix would issue it in 1/72 scale, but alass it never happened, somehow missed the Frog version. Still we can always live in hope.

With the super job Airfix have done with the Mossie, Vampire T.11 & Sea Vixen - you do have to wonder why they missed out the Mossies forgotten little sister.

To the OP, keep it simple for your first bomber, so opt for either a single or twin-engined tail dragger...

Having a brief break from Railway commissions atm, not enough time to get on with the Sea Vixen however.

Though this DH will be making a cameo with the Sea Vixen when they are both finished Smile

@T2B

Mainly only detail painting done over the past couple of days so not much to show on photographs.

But I will draw your attention back to an earlier build thread :- Wimpy! A Slightly Smaller Build Vickers Wellington Mk.IA/C by James Mower and a post by Dominic Thomas (page 5 of the thread) whose research showed that the Mk.IA/C of the Wimpy should have flared or cut turret surrounds and surgery would be required on the kit that wasn't shown by Airfix. Well I don't know how I missed this on my first Wellington build?

On Page 4, Build Stage 10 of the instructions it shows the front turret needs trimming and has highlighted the area.

The recessed cut line can be clearly seen on the inside of the fuselage sides to assist with the required surgery. I missed this and didn't do it on my first Wellington build ............ but

I have now done it on this Wimpy and the cut back front turret can now be seen!

Thanks for the nod @T2B... I neglected to tell anyone about the cutting the nose back to fit the front turret - though it is in the instructions btw Wink

@Paws4thot

 more upgrades for the Challenger 2 (wheels and suspension) and couple Pilot fine silver & gold paint pens.

Speaking of the Challenger 2, what's the Humbrol colour number for the Desert Sand?

Not sure, but it's neither 93 nor 94 (one being "Desert Yellow" and the other "Desert Sand"), but a much lighter and more "yellow" colour.

Thanks @Paws4thot, I may have mix and match by the looks of it.

@Paul Brown

The consensus from across the internet is that they will be from Academy tooling. It's been put to me that the tractor will be a re-box of the Thunder Models kit.

Academy are distributed by Bachmann in the UK, that certainly muddy's the waters a bit - oops.

Technically not an acquisition, but a commission for one of my Railway Clients - a rather big ship, 1/72nd Scale Flower Class Corvette arrived and a freebie for my stash a very old Airfix Short Stirling he's given me - the box is a bit battered but the contents are still sealed..

.. may well do a captured colour & decal scheme on it..

Other acquisitions have been, new bottles of Micro Sol & Micro Set, more upgrades for the Challenger 2 (wheels and suspension) and couple Pilot fine silver & gold paint pens.

My latest acquistion - Heng Long 1/16th RC Challenger 2 Tank - some minor assembly required!

Oooooh! Aaahhhhh! You are going to be playing nicely.

Remember we do this for fun                            John the Pom

It's the pigeons that have to worry lol

But as well as that there have been some more acquistions.

A new drill set and Archimedes drill

Some Vallejo paints

Upgrade parts for the Challenger 2 (more to order)

Oh and I've been asked to build a Ship for a railway client!

That's the ex-Matchbox (now Revell) 1/72nd Flower Class Corvette..
