Thanks for this thread, John, especially the time-saving tips.  I've got one to build for a forthcoming GB that has a very short time limit - these will really help.

Thanks again.

Blimey - I'd always thought they were just different versions of the same airframe - you have opened my eyes!  Please forgive my ignorance, helicopters aren't something I build much (obviously!Laughing)

@Scrumpy61

Hi, can any one help i am after a model of the Illustrious as it was the last ship I served on in the Royal  Navy. So far I have not been able to find either of the models that airfix sold A14201 or A50059 one of which was the gift set with paints. Can any body help with a shop or website that has this model for sale I must point out I would like an unmade model please. Many thanks

Hi, Scrumpy61 - first of all, thank you for your service.  I just asked my mate Mr Google, he says "TrendTimes.com" toys & hobbies are advertising it, selling from the States, at £55.57 plus tax (sorry, don't know how much that would be), plus £11.40 P&P.  Stuff brought in from the USA often attracts HMRC's attention, they like to charge duty on top of all that, their website might give some guidance as to how much.  All in all, not cheap.  It could be worth e-mailing some model shops (there are quite a few to be found in Airfix Model World) one of them might have one in stock.  My partner (now wife) and I visited HMS Illustrious when she called into North Shields on the Tyne, many years ago, she was a very fine ship.

@S2000

Try this:

Argos Home LED Desk Lamp - Black226/6433

I happened to be in the market for such a lamp, and also happened to see this post - thanks, S2000!  I checked the Argos website & it was on offer at £19.99 but, when I went to buy one yesterday, it had gone back to its original  £30.00 price.  I bought it anyway, and it's just the job - thanks again for the tip!

Fantastic!  I haven't seen that kit for forty-odd years, I had no idea it had been available in the "red-box" era.  I've got the old Vosper somewhere, built and packed up in a house move years ago, it would be nice to have them both together.

I really like both of your builds, John - you've inspired me to seek one out (or possibly two) - thanks for posting!

@T2B

Regular dry fitting and gentle standings until you have a perfect fit before you commit some glue is the order of the day

Echo that!  We've all been there, and it's all too easy to get carried away and forget (guess how I knowSmile)

I've just spotted this thread, and wish I'd done so before I started my build - the tip about the dive brakes would have been very useful!  My Stuka is currently stalled at the painting stage.  When the Stuka Mojo returns, I hope to emulate the builds shown here, both look terriffic!
