| Description

The rugged and reliable Hawker Hurricane was arguably the most important fighter aircraft available to the Royal Air Force at the beginning of WWII.  Easier to produce and more forgiving to fly than the more glamorous Spitfire, the Hurricane was available in much greater numbers than any other fighter at the time of the Battle of Britain and proved decisive in securing eventual victory for the pilots of the RAF.

Early RAF operations in the Mediterranean and North Africa saw small numbers of Hurricane Mk.I fighters pitted against vastly superior numbers of Regia Aeronautica aircraft.  They proved to be more than a match for anything the Italian Air Force could hurl at them, but the arrival of battle hardened Luftwaffe fighters in 1941 saw a change in fortunes.  Many of the Hurricanes were ‘Tropicalised’ and arrived in theatre with the chin mounted Vokes carburettor dust filter, which significantly altered the profile of the Hawker fighter.

The scheme on this new Hurricane has to be one of the most attractive on any RAF fighter.

I've noticed on other new kits a tool date is added unless it's a re-release. Is this a 2016 tool?

Tropical/Sea Hurricane

Great little kit. 2 props and canopies provided for (open and closed) and gun bays can be opened up if you choose. Sea hurrcane also an option with arresting hook gear included. Only item that could've been included was a rear vision mirror but doesn't take away from a well molded kit. Nice to see a more unusual 'spaghetti' and aluminium scheme included. Decals even provide for a red/blue or yellow/light blue lightning bolt due to colour uncertainty.

Possibly the best Hurricane kit ever produced

Living not far from both the original Sopwith/Hawker Factory in Canbury Park Road and the Richmond Road Factory locations(both now sadly housing), I'm doing my little bit to bring aircraft production back to Kingston, albeit in smaller scales!

I can remember building the previous tooling of the Hurricane Mk1 by Airfix (in fact I still have the completed model) - this kit has more parts in the wing assembly than the original kit alone!

The quality and finish of the kit is incredible, very little filling is needed - if any. Though mine isn't quite finished, I can quite happily say this is possibly the best Hurricane kit ever produced.

Now I challenge Airfix to update the 1:24th scale Hurricane to the same standard, as this 1:48th version really shows the age of if it's large cousin.

Airfix 1/48 Hurricane (Tropical )

This kit looks like a very good alternative to the 1/24 counterpart if display space is an issue. offers excellent interior detailing showing the central structure of the aircraft. there is the option of building a standard production example, however decals are only provided for 2 tropical examples, and I feel this is the only thing that lets the kit down. Decals for any other versions would have to be obtained seperately.
