| Description

Developed in the 1960s as the first truly successful V/STOL combat aircraft, the Hawker Siddeley Harrier proved a revelation upon entering service in this, its earliest form, the GR.1. Despite a difficult development period, the Harrier GR.1 matured into an effective close air support machine.

Based predominantly in West Germany to face any potential Eastern Bloc threat, the Harrier force also saw some service in Belize, as well as various goodwill tours around the globe. While the GR.1 never saw any combat, the next version, the GR.3, proved the Harrier's reputation.

Another Harrier flies Home

My second Harrier in as many months and my first GR1 for many years.

The kit is superb, beautifully molded with very little excess flash and it went together really easily.

The only issue being the tight fit of the nozzles (you had to remove fairing panels to fit the nozzles on the real thing)

I think it took long to put the decals on than to actually build, they are spot on.

I love the attention to detail on the kit, from the reinforcing webbing on the inter-nozzle fairings to the cramped yet detailed cockpit (there's only slightly more room in them when the ejector seat is removed)

I will definitely get the AV8A version of the kit, to build the Matador version (AV8S) in due course.

Thoroughly recommend this kit to novices and experienced modellers alike.

Another Great tooling

Thiis is a nce kit. Detailing is well defined and fit is very good (though the jet nozzles are a little tricky to get in place). The fuselage does not split into fore and aft sections like the GR7/9 so a T2 would need more extensive retooling. It lacks flap options like the later version but builds into a very nice model. Pylons fit into slots which are not blind so a clean build will need filling (not difficult). The cockpit is cramped (like the real thing) and the panel decals are not a great fit being a little oversize, but this is a very minor niggle. I definitely recommend all of the Harrier kits. The only stores are SNEB pods which was their main armament at this time but options might have been nice.... Read more
