Overcoming a challenging service introduction due to its relatively high landing speed, the Martin B-26 Marauder went on to be regarded by many as the finest twin engined medium bomber of the Second World War, boasting some of the lowest combat loss rates in the US 8th and 9th Air Forces.

The relatively high take-off and landing speed of the new Martin B-26 Marauder posed several significant challenges for pilots converting to the aircraft, with a spate of early accidents earning the Marauder the unfortunate nickname of ‘Widow maker’. Following a number of design modification and a pilot re-training programme, the Marauder soon revealed itself to be an exceptional medium bomber and went on to post the lowest combat loss rates of any USAAF bomber of WWII. It is great to see this classic Airfix kit back in the range.

"Big Bird"

I went into a model shop looking for the B-25C/D Mitchell but they didn't have it in stock, however they did have this B-26B Marauder. I decided to purchase the B-26 and when I opened the box, I was a bit disappointed to see that this was clearly and old tooled set. Other than this, I was impressed how much detail they included for the wheel wells and the bomb bay. The small instrument panel had some nice raised detail on it and also comes with a nice instrument decal. About the only new thing in this kit is the decal sheet which is printed very nicely. Overall I would recommend this kit however it would be nice to have a new-tooled version in the future.
