The Mary Rose was a carrack-type warship of the English Tudor navy of King Henry VIII. After serving for 33 years in several wars against France, Scotland and Brittany she saw her last action on 19th July 1545.

While leading the attack on the galleys of a French invasion fleet, she sank in the Solent. She now resides in a superb new exhibition site in Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard.

The pennant and rose

Just a quick note to say that the pennant should be white above green, not as in the illustration or instructions. The pennant is in the colours of the House of Tudor and like the current Welsh flag has green below the white. Also on the bow there is a round "lump". This is supposed to be the Tudor red rose. Don't cut it off, paint it red.

New Sailing Ship

I never thought a major manufacturer would bring out a new sailing ship model, as I know they are not the most popular kits on the shelf, so this "Mary Rose" came as a surprise. It is a superb little kit, excellent decals. I can see many modelers finding it too fiddly, but with a pair of dividers to measure, great rigging can be achieved using stretched sprue. I hope someone will produce some etched ratlines. They can be done using stretched sprue, but THAT really is fiddly!
