| Description

The Royal Navy's primary torpedo bomber of the Second World War, the Swordfish, despite its obsolescence, proved to be an effective anti-submarine and torpedo bomber right up until the end of hostilities in 1945, going on in fact to outlive its intended replacement, the Albacore, in Royal Navy Service. Involved in such famous actions as the Taranto raid, the Bismark operation and the Channel Dash, the vulnerable but effective Swordfish firmly cemented its place in aviation folklore.Speed: 139mph;range: 546 miles; length: 10.87m; wingspan: 13.87m; armament: 2 x .303 MG, 1 x 1,670lb torpedo or 1,500lb bombs under fuselage and wings.

Despite looking as if it were from a previous era of flight, the Fairey Swordfish was one of the most effective naval strike aircraft of WWII.  Operating against some of the largest and most advanced warships in the world, these slow but highly manoeuvrable aircraft were flown by heroes and are the pride of the Fleet Air Arm.

STUNNING SWORDFISH

This is a stunning little kit with amazing amounts of detail in every section of the build. I put an etch cockpit detail set in my build but to be honest it wasn't neccessary. But this kit is not for the beginner. Only I would suggest Airfix that you include a rigging diagram for those that wanted to try rigging, I got 1 for the internet and had to guess in 1 or 2 small areas. And can we PLEASE have the return of crew figures so it can also be dispalyed in flight, then I'll buy another 1! But overall an excellent kit

What a smashing little kit!!

I brought 3 of these as I wanted to build a carrier flight deck scene. This is a great little kit with good detail and the ability to pose the wings either folded for storage or for flight. I chose to show one ready for flight, one getting ready for flight and the last in the stored position. The kit instructions are easy to follow and jigs are provided to set the wing position. Fully recommend this superb model..well done Airfix!
