The Fokker ‘Eindecker’ (meaning single wing) monoplane fighters were the first purpose designed Fokker E.II Eindecker Specification: German fighter aircraft of the First World War. Fitted for the first time with reliable ‘interrupter gear’ which enabled the single machine gun to fire through the blades of the propeller, the Eindecker was able to easily shoot down the slow and vulnerable Allied reconnaissance aircraft of the period.
Designed as a very stable and easy to fly aircraft suitable for reconnaissance, the RAF BE2 series were in service throughout the First World War. However, the stability and lack of speed that made them so suitable for photographing enemy trenches left them very vulnerable to attack from German fighters, especially from mid-1915, when the Fokker Eindecker came into service. Such were the losses that the B.E.2c gained the unfortunate nickname ‘Fokker Fodder’ and the period from mid-1915 to early 1916 became known as the ‘Fokker Scourge’.

Beautiful planes and an excellent overall box
I knew I wanted this box from the first day I saw it. Fall in love with the planes and the colors. The box is just excellent. Paint more than enough for both planes. Everything fits. I have nothing to say about the Fokker. Everything was perfect. For the Royal Aircraft I will make two comments. First if you want to place it on the display there is not way without some serious sanding down of the display's black edges on which the plane will stand. Be very careful drilling the holes for the display on the plane. They will have to be very small. The second comment has to do with the decals placed on the vertical radder. If you look closely you will see that there are three indents. The middle one for the rigging. The decals though have only two (the top and lower) so when you try to place the decal it will not sit properly. I had to remove it and cut with a knife the indent. Did the same on other side. Also did most of the rigging...so just beautiful!!!... Read more

This was my first ww1 plane set! I found it so fascinating to build. Only one problem though. The struts on the royal aircraft factory be2c were a bit fiddly so I did one side at a time. Overall a really good set. Airfix did a good job on this. Also to help you with the struts they give you a piece to get the right angle.
