The prototype Bf109A first flew in 1935.  The later E model was more powerful and better armed and by the summer of 1940 over 500 were in service for the offensive against Great Britain.  By this time, the 109E had already proved to be a competent fighter aircraft in the skies above Poland, France and the low countries.  It met its match over England and was shown to be inferior to the RAFs Spitfire.

One of the greatest fighter aircraft of all time, the Messerschmitt Bf109 was fast and heavily armed and in the hands of a competent pilot, was a fearsome adversary. Continually developed throughout WWII, later variants of this Battle of Britain era Bf109 were still in service at the end of the Second World War.

Great, but has some issues...

This was a fun and amazing build, yet it was extremely hard to pull pieces off the spruces. In the end, I had to use my pocketknife. I ended up with the cannons broken in half because it refused to budge. The grey paint was also the wrong color, making it slightly bluish. Still, it was a very good set.

Good Kit

A nice little kit that i'm currently working on after picking one up at Cosford Air Museum. Opened it to find two missing parts, but replacements have been sorted for one (amazingly quick response, great customer support), and waiting on a reply for the second. So far, the fit has been great and the detail is very good for a kit of its size and scale, having options for deployed or retracted flaps, and an option to show the engine.
For paining instructions, the ones in the kit are quite basic on the inside of the aircraft- as is appropriate for a starter set- so more experienced modellers may want to get instructions for another boxing of the kit, or for the 1/48 version.
Would be a 5/5 if it were not for the missing parts.... Read more
