Description
This kit shows off one of the finest sets of tooling we created during the late 1990’s. Back by popular demand, the classic Spitfire is the best selling model in the Airfix range. In fact, the Spitfire has been an Airfix staple since the day one! This kit is a beauty, so if you’ve not made a Spitfire before – this is the one to start with!
Here we offer you a big 1:48 scale model – giving you a model over 36cm long, with a 26cm wingspan! The Spitfire was enhanced and developed over the War years, and this kit allows you to create the late versions – Mk22 and Mk24.
Not only is the model a classic war plane, thanks to the new paint scheme and decal design you can present your finished model as either a member of the Hong Kong based squadron or as an Auxiliary fighter based in late 1940’s England.
In the box you will find a set of plastic sprues holding 88 beautifully manufactured components, waiting for you to assemble. Of course, you will find a fully illustrated set of assembly instructions, plus a paint guide and decals to apply once completed.
So, no matter how you paint and assemble the model – you will end up with a statement piece for any model collection. Something you will be proud to display. Do not forget you will need paint and glue to finish this kit – we can supply the correct accessories from our Humbrol range.

Built in greater numbers than any other Allied fighter of WWII, the Spitfire was in production throughout the Second World War and underwent almost constant development during this time. As the last of their breed, these mighty Rolls-Royce Griffon powered monsters represented the pinnacle of piston engined fighter design and whilst much changed from the first fighters arriving at Duxford in the summer of 1938, still managing to retain their unmistakable Spitfire heritage.

I have made a number of spitfires in my time in airfix, and this is one of the best. Great moulding, fits really well. Great job airfix!

An oldy but a goody.
This kit is the 1997 moulding of the 22/24 which also served as the base for the Seafire 46/47 kit. A very enjoyable and simple kit, with good fit, it's a shame that the parts to make a Seafire 46/47 are not included, but hopefully that will be re-released at some point. Not the most sophisticated kit, but a great build and it gets the shape right!
